6.5.10 Possible Provision of Allotments: The Chairman reported that another local landowner has offered to meet the council to discuss possible land for allotments. As previously agreed by council, these discussions will take place with the Chairman and Clerk.
7.4.10 Possible Provision of Allotments: The Chairman reported That he and the Clerk recently met with one local landowner to discuss possible land for allotments. Unfortunately, the landowner in question has other plans for the land expressed as being the Parish Council’s preferred choice, but he does have an alternative potential site for allotments, albeit this would be expensive and pose logistical and road safety problems. With this in mind, the Parish Council commissioned the Clerk to continue pursue the final two options of acquiring land before a decision is finally made. The Clerk was also commissioned to advertise in a forthcoming issue of the Reeves Tale, that the Parish Council would like to hear from any parishioners who have any land they would wish to share with others.
6.12 Possible Provision of Allotments: The Chairman reported that Bawdeswell parishioners, who had shown an interest in allotments, had formed the Bawdeswell Allotment & Leisure Gardens Association as a result of the presentation given by Karen Kenny, the Eastern Region Representative from the National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardens, at the village meeting on 12th November 2009. The
Bawdeswell Association was now likely to apply pressure on the Council to provide allotments for the Parish. JM therefore proposed, seconded by DC, that the Parish Council apply for corporate membership of the National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardens, given that this Society can provide valuable assistance on procuring land for the provision of allotments; decision unanimous. Karen Kenny had advised Parish Council representatives attending the village meeting against the compulsory purchase of land for allotments and suggested the best option was to lease land from local farmers/landowners.
Therefore, the Parish Council commissioned DS and the Clerk to contact the attached list of local farmers/landowners to discuss the possibility of leasing approximately 1½- 2 acres of agricultural land close to the village for the provision of allotments with the option to expand further in the future. Action – DS/Clerk
